Mailware Technology Comparison to Mail Order Manager |
||
|
Highlighted Features |
Mailware | MOM |
| Database | DBISAM SQL | FoxPro (MOM) MS SQL Server (MOM XL) |
| Table Structure | Dynamic - As new features are added Mailware can add fields on-the-fly. This means we can add new features, expand fields and modify the database at will. | Static - Both MOM and MOM XL have a fixed database (in fact both are based on the original MOM FoxPro database from DOS). This limits MOM's ability to add new content. Plus, MOM must manage 2 separate databases simultaneously. This is more prone to programmer error and means updates in 2 disparate systems are less frequent. |
| Scalability | Mailware is fully scalable from 1 to over 100 stations. Its database has theoretical limits in the millions so you never need to worry about the number of records. The Client/Server option means you can isolate your data and transfer the workload from your network to a single server. Plus, it is self-contained so there is never a need to worry about keeping in sync with a third-party software system. | MOM - None MOM XL - with the use of MS SQL Server MOM approached Mailware scalability standards but lacks the database structure to meet it. Also, MOM XL is dependent on MS SQL Server updates and must be kept in sync. |
| Speed | DBISAM is natively faster than FoxPro and comparable or better than MS SQL Server. In addition we have maximized speed in areas like customer search which takes 2-3 seconds no matter how large your database. This is not available in MOM. | FoxPro is an older database with speed and stability issues. MS SQL Server is natively faster, but must be tweaked for maximum benefit. |
| Security | Mailware includes comprehensive security permissions and logs. With Client/Server you can also isolate your database in an unshared folder on a server without requiring Internet access. | MOM secures its database with encryption. While this sounds favorable it is extremely limited. The database cannot be compressed (for speed and storage) and you cannot access your own data as MOM's database is proprietary. |
| Robustness | The DBISAM database is extremely reliable. Data corruption and lost records are highly unlikely. When using Client/Server the chance of corruption is even lower. In the rate event of data corruption you can run a repair directly within Mailware and be back up and running in a few minutes. | The MOM database is very prone to data
corruption and in many cases will not report errors and lost
data (you can see it on the MOM screens, but the data cannot
be extracted for export or displayed accurately in reports).
FoxPro is simply not a reliable mission critical database. The MOM XL database is more robust, but is plagued by the above mentioned limitations (proprietary, static and third-party dependent). |
| Management | The Mailware database is completely open. You can view, edit and export raw data just as it is entered. It is your data after all. We even include powerful database tools. While fully accessible to a user with privileges, it may also be locked to prevent unauthorized access. | Both MOM and MOM XL databases are proprietary. This means you may only access the data from within the MOM program and through some limited external access. Encrypted data may only be accessed through MOM (for example, you cannot read, export or report on credit card data outside of MOM). |

premiums, etc. It also allows you to apply shipping
charges to a third party account. The module comes with
all of the rate and zone information for UPS, FedEx/RPS,

Mailware mail order software supports several third-party software packages. This gives you the freedom to choose your own merchant services provider and software. Costs for various software packages vary. For comparative purposes Authorize Net is a complete provider and software solution. To integrate it with Mailware you need only purchase xAuthorize for $130. This solution is comparable to the service offered by Mail Order Manager (MOM) which also uses Authorize Net. Additional supported software is documented in Footnote #1 below. |
This
module is essential for anyone doing extensive credit card
business. It completely automates card authorizations and
transactions direct to your bank or credit card network.
Card purchases can be approved/transacted in real time
from the order entry screen while the customer is on the
phone, or in batch prior to each run of order processing.
This module includes an interface to a M.O.M. online
credit card processing gateway and requires a broadband or
'dial out' internet connection. Above as stated on the Mail Order Manager / Dydacomp site. |
||||
Mailware mail order software includes a built-in contact log you can use to schedule calls for assigned reps, record conversations, send catalogs, birthday cards and more. Some suggested uses are explained in our Online Tutorial. Advanced users can combine this feature with Mailware's report writer and Mailware Query tool to create very powerful call lists (e.g., recent purchasers, frequent purchasers etc.) and more. |
Add
a complete phone contact management system to M.O.M.
It provides your customer support and sales staff with an
inbound call log, outbound call and call back scheduling,
a call note pad, caller interest level tracking, even an
auto dialing feature if you have your phone system hooked
up through your PC modem. This module also lets you use
the optional List Management Module to create
telemarketing lists that can be loaded as "calls
to be made" with scheduled call dates, first
call topics, and assigned salesperson.
Above as stated on the Mail Order Manager / Dydacomp site. |

Mailware mail order software includes several tools to manage your customer lists:
These tools give you unprecedented control over your most valuable asset - your customers. Using the Import Wizard you can add customers to your database from lists you rent or buy (they can be tagged as such until they become a permanent part of your list, using the "Mailing" designation). Then with the Report Writer and/or Query Tool you can select customers to call, mail or email. Queries can be added to the Tools menu and run anytime with a single click. Mailware includes standard Avery formats for labels and can easily export to a text, Excel or database file. The Email Notification feature includes its own query tool, or you can simply load an existing Mailware report into it. Emails can be sent to solicit your customers, notify them of backorders and tracking numbers, bill for open invoices and more. |
Here’s the tool you need to create target lists of your customers and prospective customers for mailing, e-mailing, faxing, telemarketing, or just about anything you want to do with them. The module includes a sophisticated query building tool that enables you to precisely select customers based on customer type, product purchased, advertising source, gross dollar amount spent, number of orders, geographic location, date of last activity, number of mailings, even any of your own customized customer fields. Once you build a list query, you can save it and run it over again at a future date to create the same type of list for another purpose. And, you can save each list too. Use a saved list as an "exclude" statement against another list to eliminate people that you’ve already mailed to previously. Finally, there’s even a built-in de-duping routine to make sure that you don’t mail to somebody more than once.
And,
when it comes to mailing, List Management gives you every
imaginable option - print labels on over one hundred
different formats, including Avery laser printer labels.
Mail for less using USPS POSTNET bar-coding for discount
"bulk" or standard mailings. Mail/merge your
list to your choice of form letter. Print the letters or
select to "broadcast" an e-mail or fax instead.

This
module lets you connect M.O.M. to outside order taking
services, other M.O.M. users, fulfillment companies and
the web. You can import or export orders as well as
customer names or prospective customer names. The import
process controls all inventory, tax calculations, product
pricing, shipping, and resolution of duplicate customer
names. This module is
required for SiteLINK users.
Above as stated on the Mail Order Manager / Dydacomp site. |
||||
No need to learn a separate system for your retail sales. Mailware's point of sale (POS) system uses the same order screen with the option to exclude customer information. Enter products manually or scan them with a bar code. Print receipts, authorize credit cards, accept cash or checks. Sales tax is calculated automatically too. |
This
module turns any M.O.M. station into a "cash
register" for counter sales. A special order entry
screen, similar in appearance to the regular M.O.M. order
entry screen, enables you to take an order with or without
customer information In addition, order payment methods
are designed especially for counter sales with Credit
Card, Cash or Check as options. The module computes tax
and change due to customer and prints a register receipt.
Reporting for register sales, products sold, and sales tax
is included through the regular M.O.M. reporting options Above as stated on the Mail Order Manager / Dydacomp site. |
||||
Use the Recurring Orders feature to set up orders that recur every X days and end at a date you set. Useful for subscriptions, club orders, memberships and more. And, because it uses the standard order system you can print labels, invoices and any other form with your regular daily processing. You can even use the Email Notification feature to combine recurring orders with email newsletters. |
This
option gives you the ability to manage magazine or
newsletter products with special routines for number of
issues, last issue, renewal date, etc. Used in conjunction
with the List Management Module, you can fill subscription
orders by creating subscription definitions and then
printing labels for mailing.
The
List Management Module is required for this option. Above as stated on the Mail Order Manager / Dydacomp site. |
||||
Specify as many warehouses as needed for any individual item. Warehouses can be prioritized so that items are removed from warehouses in order of preference. |
Designed

to be defined based on region. The module also allows one
person to centrally manage the activities of multiple
packers working at one or several warehouse locations.
This module is only available for
MOM 5.0 users or higher and is not available for M.O.M.
SoHo Edition. Above as stated on the Mail Order Manager / Dydacomp site. |

of the basic M.O.M. system this modules adds the power of
"Scan & Shelf" receiving, historical based
purchase forecasting and an interface for synchronizing
M.O.M. with external inventory or manufacturing systems.
This module is exclusively
available for MOM 5.0 users and is not available for M.O.M.
SoHo Edition.
Above as stated on the Mail Order Manager / Dydacomp site. |
||||

Mailware's report writer is friendly to use, powerful and versatile.
|

those users who want to design their own custom reports,
