Switch between companies (databases)

Instructions
The first time you run Mailware it defaults to the Sample Database. You can switch to a blank database and enter your own company data. If you are running the Mailware demo you can purchase a license at any time and you will not lose the information you have already entered.

To switch between companies:
  1. Close any open windows in Mailware (e.g., Customers, Orders etc.)

  2. Click File on the text menu and select Open Company. The following dialog will open.

  1. Select one of the 3 database options in the top portion of the dialog:

Local Database - This is the blank database located below your Mailware installed directory. The default location is c:\program files\Mailware XXXX\data - where XXXX is the version number.

Sample Database - This is the sample database located below your Mailware installed directory. The default location is c:\program files\Mailware XXXX\sampdata.

Network Database - You can set up as many individual databases as you wish. These can reside anywhere on your local PC or network. You can see the location of each Network Database in the lower portion of the dialog or you can click any one and select the Edit button.

For help on creating your own company databases see the topic Create a Company.

Note: Your Data Directory includes all your data (customers, orders etc.), your reports (in their own Reports directory) and shortcuts to queries (in the Tools directory). When you use the Mailware Backup option (Tools>Backup from the text menu) your data folder is copied to a special Zip file with a .mmm extension. The file does NOT include your Reports and Tools folders.

Client/Server Note: If you are using the Client/Server option for Mailware your Network Database will point to a folder that contains your clientserver.ini file and your Reports and Tools subdirectories. Your data is not located in this area and may not be accessible from individual workstations (depending on how your network was set up). Also, the Backup option from the Tools menu will not work through the client/server network database. You must link directly to your data directory to use the Backup option.
